It is difficult for words and pictures to do justice to the nights of April 16, 17, 18, and 20th 2010 in Seattle, Washington.   During those nights, a collaborative effort in which the poetry of Wallace Stevens, the musical arrangements of Thomas Albert, the art of Mark Hoppmann, and the musicians assembled by Rajan Krishnaswami of simplemeasures.org combined together to create an atmosphere none who attended will soon forget.   Those nights also witnessed the premier performance of Andrew Sigler's composition, Sparrows Jump Nine Sandpipers.   To say the evening was sublime is an understatement.

There are still a limited # of hand signed books from the original limited edition still for sale for those who still have not reserved one for their collection.  Contact mark@markhoppmannart.com for price and availability.  Go to

www.simplemeasures.org to find out more about simple measures.

The Studio Project

It's amazing what new shingle siding, new gutters and downspouts, caulking, and a new coat of paint can do for the studio and, yes, even the soul.    Only a two week do it yourself project, and completed during our warm spell in March, 2010, it will be good to get back to my art.  Call (253) 495-1830 for an appointment.

Twelve Days

Almost two years ago, the seed for a series of illustrations for The Twelve Days of Christmas began germinating in my mind.  After all, if I could illustrate Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird by Wallace Stevens, this would be a cinch.  As it turned out, Twelve Days underwent many transformations until it finally evolved into anything but the poem your grandmother read and unlike anything you learned in school.    Click on the link to enjoy, and find out more about the book.  Twelve Days
