Handmade Books
| Since life as an artist is constantly evolving, not to mention full of surprises, the last two years have found me involved with two new projects which made it necessary for me to begin learning the art of making books. Twenty years in the graphic arts industry working in prepress, printing, and bindery has given me a rudimentary foundation from which to draw upon, but I soon found myself learning more than I had bargained for. How a book is constructed, papermaking, and the wealth of materials with which to construct a book were some of the new challenges that awaited me. I hope my patrons enjoy the journey as much as I. Twelve Days is carefully created by the artist in his studio one book at a time. Each cover is handmade in the artists studio from recycled materials and air dried in the rustic tradition, which emphasizes the textural qualities of the paper. The original illustrations have been rendered by the artist in india ink using a steel crow quill, then scanned, and output using a inkjet printer onto commercially made recycled papers, before being assembled by hand. Bound with raffia and placed in an attractive gift box, the book makes a delightful gift. Since each book is hand made, be sure to allow time to create each book and delivery! A great gift to yourself or to someone who appreciates crows for $30.00 plus shipping and sales tax. Click on the image above to see selected illustrations from the book! |
